British Antarctic Survey Halley VI Research Station
Location: Antarctic
Architect: Hugh Broughton Architects
Principal Contractor: Morrison

The new station will provide a home and work place for 16 people during the winter and 52 in the summer and needs to respond to some extreme environmental challenges.

Located 10,000 miles from the UK, the station will be located on a 150 metre thick floating ice shelf, which moves 1 km per annum towards the sea.

The new prefabricated modular research station features a dramatic central social and recreational module, as well as laboratories and living/sleeping accommodation.

The ironmongery had to be able to function in the harsh climate conditions, with closers hinges and lever handles working in contrasting external and internal temperatures.

As the station is also a residential building, the ironmongery has to give a contemporary look and easily withstand the rigours of everyday life.

Yannedis supplied the full range of modern stainless steel ironmongery to the project to suit the extreme conditions of the Antarctic. Stainless steel is easy to maintain, looks good over time and requires virtually no maintenance.

Blue Fin Building
Location: London
Architect: Allies and Morrison (Base Build) & Bennett Interior Design (fit-out)
Principal Contractor: Bovis LendLease (Base Build) & ISG (fit-out)

The Blue Fin Building is the name of IPC Media’s headquarters in Southwark. The name reflects the structure’s most prominent architectural feature - the 2,000 blue aluminium fins that cover the building’s façade.

Bennett Interior Design (BID) were commissioned as the fit-out architects for the project.

The concept they proposed was to put all the main circulation for the floors around the central atrium, named “The Street”.

Yannedis worked closely with BID to provide a solution which met quality and budget as well as the DDA and the fire engineering solution.

Different disciplines on different floors meant in some instances an alternative level of ironmongery specification and finish was required. On the management floor, special glass and art deco furniture were specified.

Yannedis also specified and supplied washroom equipment and signage for this very prestigious building.

Daily Express Building
Location: London
Architect: Bennett Interior Design
Principal Contractor:
Interior Tolent (joint venture)

This 1930s building on Fleet Street no longer hums to the sound of printing presses.

The building is now the meeting rooms for Goldman Sachs so the ironmongery specification is to a very high standard.

The high standard begins at the front of the building where Yannedis specified striking stainless steel entrance pull handles and continues with high quality ironmongery throughout.
