Lloyd Worrall is committed to offering unique and tailored ironmongery packages to every project it is involved with:

Accommodation | Commercial | Education | Healthcare | Leisure | Restoration & Heritage

Christie Critical Care Unit
Location: Manchester
Architect: Taylor Young
Principal Contractor: HBG

The Christie Hospital is one of the leading cancer centres in Europe. This new extension provides an 8 bed critical care unit on the ground floor with staff and relative accommodation on the first floor.

Both the architect and client have been working with Lloyd Worrall for over 25 years. Being a hospital project, the client was looking for a hardwearing, durable specification which observed all the EN standards and DDA requirements. To this end a comprehensive door hardware specification was prepared based on the Lloyd Worrall Chiltern stainless steel range in conjunction with Dorma door closers.

"Taylor Young has worked with Lloyd Worrall for many years. They have assisted on many varied projects in the production of ironmongery schedules and specifications, backed up by sound technical advice. I have always found their services to be prompt and reliable."

Paul Minshull, Taylor Young.

Breathing Space, Rotherham NHS Primary Care Trust
Location: Rotherham
Architect: Rotherham Architects
Principal Contractor: ???

Breathing Space is an £11m specialist centre setup to be the hub for the largest respiratory rehabilitation programme in the UK. The door hardware had to secure the entire facility, yet be sympathetic towards the users of the building, many of whom have mobility difficulties.

Lloyd Worrall supplied an access control system which allowed people with disabilities to use the building safely and independently. Circulation doors are secured with on-line proximity wall readers networked to the computer system. Interior doors are secured with network locks compatible with staff and patient ID cards. Low-energy operators work with the access control to ensure doors open at a precisely controlled speed.

"The design was completed in consultation with Lloyd Worrall and resulted in a design suitable for sufferers of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), their carers and staff at the centre. Lloyd Worrall worked closely with the client, architect and other design team members to provide a solution which met quality and budget as well as the DDA and the fire engineering solution."

Howard Buckley, Rotherham Borough Architects

Breathing Space won 2 awards at the 2007 RIBA Yorkshire White Rose Awards:

Winner of the Project of the Year Award and Winner of the Design and Innovation Award.
