Barton Square, Trafford Centre

Barton Square, The Trafford Centre
Location: Manchester
Architect: Leach Rhodes and Walker
Principal Contractor: Bovis Lendlease

Trafford Centre

The design of Barton Square mirrors the iconic design of The Trafford Centre, with opulent architecture, water features and grand structures all linked by a glazed bridge to The Trafford Centre.

Lloyd Worrall has a long-standing relationship with the practice. Indeed, Lloyd Worrall worked with Leach Rhodes and Walker on the original prestigious Trafford Centre shopping development several years ago.

The specification called for a hardwearing, durable range in keeping with the original building. Lloyd Worrall's past experience of working on the original development ensured a solution which was suitable to both client and contractor.

"In over 20 years' working relationship with Lloyd Worrall, they have always maintained a friendly, professional service with post contract support that is second to none."

Imperial War Museum Duxford, AirSpace
Location: Duxford
Architect: HOK International
Principal Contractor: Laing O'Rouke

The new AirSpace building is a £25m project telling the story of Britain's civil and military aviation past, present and future.

The AirSpace building is much more than simply a hanger - it provides a climate-controlled environment in which to preserve the aircraft.

Yannedis worked closely with the architect to provide a solution which met quality and budget incorporating an access control package and egress ironmongery, while Lloyd Worrall Milton Keynes supplied the signage package.

Hardware supplied to 390 doors includes:

Stainless steel design levers with matching associated ironmongery for durability and longevity for a public building.

Mag-locked panic bolts which operate on a delay to allow the building to maintain its security integrity whilst open to the public, together with enhanced perimeter locking to avoid vandal attack from outside.

The Idea Store
Location: London
Architect: Adjaye Associates
Principal Contractor: William Verry

The Idea Store at Whitechapel is a new concept library development which represents a new departure for public buildings.

A specification was required for suitable ironmongery for a building to function not only as a library but also as a much broader resource for the community. With the building making a strong design statement, the door furniture had to make an equally important contribution to design and functionality.

From the initial ideas of the architect, Yannedis created a specification for bespoke door furniture and fittings which not only met the design criteria but provided a value added product that met the full approval of the client.

The Idea Store was the winner of the RIBA Inclusive Design Awards in 2006.

Millennium Galleries
Location: Sheffield
Architect: Pringle Richards Sharratt Ltd
Principal Contractor: Sheffield Works Department

The Millennium Galleries is an outstanding venue for visual arts, craft and design right in the heart of Sheffield.

With national and international masterpieces from places such as The Tate and the V&A museum regularly visiting the galleries, the top priority for the ironmongery specification was security, focusing on providing a safe and secure environment for the exhibits on display and in storage.

The project was very demanding. Some of the doors measured 150mm thick. Lloyd Worrall sourced ironmongery which was strong enough to take the weight of the doors and function correctly as some of these huge doors were fire escape routes.
