Setting the Standard: Staffordshire’s First All-Through School

How Lloyd Worrall partnered with BAM Construction and Carpentry Interior Services to deliver high-performance doorsets for the landmark Rugeley John Taylor School.

The Rugeley John Taylor School is a landmark development, standing as Staffordshire’s first-ever “all-through” educational facility.

Delivered by BAM Construction, the project is being managed in strategic stages; Phase 1 reached a successful milestone in September 2025 with the official opening of the Year 7 secondary facilities. From the earliest design stages, the Lloyd Worrall specification team worked in close partnership with BAM Construction and joinery sub-contractor Carpentry Interior Services to curate and supply a comprehensive internal doorset and ironmongery package for this cutting-edge school.

The Solution: Form Meets Function

To meet the rigorous demands of a modern educational environment, we supplied over 300 high-performance doorsets featuring durable laminate facings and matching side screens.

The design repeats across each floor to ensure visual cohesion and operational familiarity for students and staff.

  • Circulation & Stairwells: integrated with heavy-duty door closing devices to manage high-traffic flow while maintaining fire safety integrity
  • Specialist Learning Spaces: custom solutions for Music and Science rooms, IT suites, and Drama studios, designed to complement the specific technical furniture and acoustic requirements of each setting.
  • Communal Hubs: Doorsets for the Dining Hall, Assembly Hall, and Library that balance open-plan aesthetics with robust security.

Prioritising Safety, Security, and Accessibility

The ironmongery specification was curated to ensure the building is inclusive and secure:

  • Accessibility: We utilised lift-to-lock furniture and recessed flush pulls specifically for accessible toilets and sports hall spaces to ensure ease of use and safety for all pupils.
  • Durability: Stainless steel lever and pull handles provide a long-lasting finish capable of withstanding the daily wear of a school environment.
  • Security: Precision-engineered hardware and master-key systems ensures that classrooms and offices remain secure hubs for learning and administration.

Collaborative Synergy

The success of this project was rooted in early engagement and a coordinated approach with the main construction stakeholders.

“The new Rugeley John Taylor School stands as a testament to what can be achieved through early collaboration. Working closely with BAM’s design and site teams, and alongside Carpentry Interior Services, Lloyd Worrall ensured that all aspects of the doorset package were executed with accuracy and attention to detail.” — Stuart Griffiths, Solutions Manager at Lloyd Worrall

— Russell Evans, Director at Carpentry Interior Services adds, “Collaborating with BAM and the Lloyd Worrall team on this project shows the value of early engagement. Clear communication and organised site management allowed our joiners to focus on delivering high-quality results without unnecessary delays. We look forward to continuing our strong working relationship with Lloyd Worrall on future developments.”

With years of doorset and ironmongery experience, Lloyd Worrall internal doorsets are built to withstand the rigour of daily use in an education setting. Crucially, all doorsets are tested and certified to the highest standards for fire safety and backed by a highly experienced technical team. In addition, Lloyd Worrall provides customers with an easy to access system for the management of fire doors in the form of InterspecThread.
