The £32 million facility, built to modernise local recycling services, features durable timber doors from Lloyd Worrall.

Lloyd Worrall specified and supplied robust timber doors ensuring essential fire safety and durability standards were met.

The £32 million Walsall Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) and Waste Transfer Station (WTS) project plays a key role in Walsall Council’s strategy to modernise and enhance local waste management services, allowing the area to recycle a wider selection of waste than currently possible.

Constructed on a six-hectare site, and processing 40,000 tonnes of rubbish per year, the HWRC includes an adjoining WTS. This has been designed to accommodate up to 125,000 tonnes of collected municipal waste and recyclate per year and includes a reuse shop and a workshop area to divert items from landfills.

Morgan Sindall Construction and Concertus Design and Property Consultants delivered the state-of-the-art project.

Lloyd Worrall was appointed by Morgan Sindall Midlands and Thames region to deliver a robust door package for the facility.

Collaborative working is crucial for ensuring the final product is functional, compliant, and delivered efficiently within budget and on time. Working together with Morgan Sindall’s design and site team, Lloyd Worrall specified and supplied a fully compliant doorset package – complete with the design teams chosen range of ironmongery – to the office, welfare and corridor areas.

A mix of robust oak laminate faced fire and non-fire doors were supplied to balance aesthetic appeal with essential safety requirements and the rigour of daily use in a waste management environment. A range of side screens were also supplied to office, staff and meeting room doors.

The doorsets were installed by Simark Ltd, with Lloyd Worrall’s doorset team available with on-site technical support during installation.

The early collaboration, and unified effort among the stakeholder’s has resulted in a successful project for all parties involved.
