Providing Vital Solutions To The Healthcare Sector
Next week the Lloyd Worrall team will be exhibiting at Healthcare Estates in Manchester from the 8th to the 9th of October, so what better time to talk about our long standing work with healthcare organisations?
We are a trusted provider of architectural ironmongery solutions tailored specifically for the health sector. In healthcare projects, performance, durability, and safety are paramount. Our products are designed to meet the complex demands of these facilities and uphold the highest standards.
Our goal is to ensure dignity and privacy for patients while providing staff with durable solutions that withstand frequent use. In this post, we’ll highlight our top solutions for the healthcare sector.
Our Top Solutions
Here are some of the key solutions we offer…
Our extensive range of ironmongery products is designed for both practicality and style, specifically catering to the unique needs of the healthcare sector. We offer stainless steel and nylon hardware, ideal for high-traffic areas due to their performance, durability, and sleek designs. In residential healthcare environments, the aesthetic appeal of our products creates a welcoming atmosphere. With warm bronze and brass finishes, we help residents feel at home without compromising safety, security, or accessibility.
Durability is crucial in hospital settings; our products are built for heavy-duty applications. With robust materials like stainless steel and secure bolt-through fixings for lever and pull handles, we ensure long-lasting performance. Additionally, our solutions can include infection control measures, such as integral or applied antibacterial treatments that remain active. To enhance accessibility, we provide a wide range of internal and external signage for easy navigation through departments, wards, and corridors.
Doorsets
We understand the complexities healthcare facilities face, so our doorsets are specifically designed to meet customer needs. Built for longevity and durability, our doorsets are perfect for busy corridors, featuring severe-duty cores, robust facings, and kick plates for added strength. Our fully certified fire and security doors ensure the safety of patients, staff, and visitors. In emergencies, our doorsets can integrate with automation products for safe and efficient evacuation, reducing the risk of individuals getting trapped. Our specialised ironmongery combined with complete doorset packages enhances safety, including pivette doorsets that minimise door swings on outward-opening doors.
These solutions can be customised for specialised areas like X-ray rooms and operating theatres. We also offer privacy glazing, featuring adjustable blinds encapsulated in glass to ensure patient safety and privacy. For GP surgeries and consultation rooms, our doors have high acoustic ratings for soundproofing, allowing patients to feel comfortable and secure.
In healthcare environments, we’ve found a high-pressure laminate facing the most beneficial; these come in a range of colours that can be used to differentiate room usage. HPL facings are easy to clean and resistant to damage while providing a bright, lively atmosphere.
We offer a range of finishes for our doorsets that we’ve written about in a previous blog; you can find that here.
Access Control and Door Automation
Security is paramount in the healthcare sector. Hospitals, nursing homes, mental health facilities, and GP surgeries must protect both vulnerable patients and staff. We find that combining access control with door automation strikes the right balance between security and accessibility. Our systems can manage employee access, restricting entry based on the sensitivity of data in different areas. Our access and automation team is ready to discuss tailored solutions, whether it’s robust automatic doors for easy entry, video entry systems linked to nurse stations, or ‘no contact’ sensor access for critical areas. For residential care, we provide low-opening force cam action closing devices and electromagnetic hold-open door closers to facilitate movement while ensuring fire doors function as intended.
Handrails and Balustrades
In the UK, handrails and balustrades are a legislative requirement in healthcare environments. Designed with the end user’s abilities in mind, our selection of handrails can be used in corridors and stairwells to ensure safe, secure, and cost-effective access. With nylon and stainless-steel finishes, handrails are easy to clean with additional benefits such as a ‘warm touch’ for patient comfort and bright colours to create contrast with surrounding areas. We provide a full service, including site surveys, design drawings, manufacture, installation, and high levels of project support. At all points of the specification, our team can advise on legislation and best practices for your space using their extensive knowledge of UK building regulations and the healthcare sector.
A coordinated approach
While our products excel individually, their true potential shines when combined to create comprehensive solutions tailored to each project’s unique requirements. A prime example is our collaboration with Hillingdon Hospital on the Jubilee Building, where privacy, fire safety, and security were paramount.
We selected laminate-faced doorsets for their durability and easy-to-clean surfaces, helping staff maintain hygiene and prevent infections. These fire-rated doors feature a fully integrated stainless steel ironmongery package, including delayed action door closers, electromagnetic floor springs, lever and pull handles, locks, signage, and ancillaries. To ensure privacy, Vistamatic vision panels were installed in consulting and treatment rooms. Our door automation team provided technical guidance and installed automatic operators at key access points, linked to a video entry system for enhanced security and seamless 24-hour access, ensuring both safety and convenience during off-hours.
