Established in 2005, WDH is now one of the UK’s largest social housing providers, with over 32,000 homes across the Wakefield and wider operating area across the North of England.
Baileygate Court in Pontefract has 50 purpose-built apartments, designed with the over 60’s in mind. The building has recently been modernised throughout to create a relaxing and comfortable environment while catering for a wide range of people’s needs.
Great care has been taken to ensure the Handrails and Balustrades system specified took into consideration the abilities of the end-users. It is important that the accommodation is fully accessible in accordance with the Equality Act 2010 while ensuring users can easily locate and use the system.
Our H&B Division supplied and installed hundreds of metres of Interspec timber and stainless steel system to staircases and corridors throughout the scheme.
The Interspec timber and stainless steel balustrade system allows the flexibility to combine the two materials, beech timber handrails with stainless steel ends and brackets. This was an ideal solution for Baileygate. The H&B system linked with other interior design features – namely the door faces and door hardware – and has created a homely feel while also giving vital support and safety to users as they navigate around the building.
The staircases feature clear toughened 10mm glass, allowing light into the stairways, but ensuring stringent safety standards to achieve 1.5kN loading.
